Eat well in Vilnius

French atmosphere at Saint Germain
A local favorite and considered by those in the know as the best French restaurant in Lithuania. Its location on picturesque side street Literatų makes it look like a Parisian gem, and the menu looks like it has just been taken out of a French bistro with classics such as oysters, foie gras, duck breast and creme brulée. The decor is cozy bohemian chic, with a mixed collection of Rococo furniture and white-painted recycled tables. If the weather allows, you can also sit outside.

Here you will find local food trucks, families and all sorts of people eating, relaxing, enjoying music and feeling at home, and you can get everything from beet soup to pancakes, spring rolls and tacos. A good place for when you want to enjoy unpretentious food with loads of atmosphere. In addition, a new funky street market, Turgus 2.0, was launched recently on Pylimo g. and is open every Sunday until October 1, and again with an alternative Christmas market in December.

The catch of the day. Photo: Šturmu Švyturys

Šturmu Švyturys
The catch of the day from selected Baltic fishermen determines what appears on the menu. At fish restuarant Sturmy Svyturys in the Užupis artisan quarter, everything is prepared from local, seasonal products taken from the sea. The fish are displayed on ice, and you choose what you would like the chef to cook for you. And because the people in the kitchen know what they are doing, the result is fresh and breathtaking fish dishes, which has made the restaurant one of the most popular in Vilnius. Good wine and cozy maritime decor.

Markedet Hales Turgus
Outside this beautiful market hall dating from 1906, local retirees sell plums, flowers, apples and other goodies from house and garden. Inside, fresh fruit, seasonal vegetables, mushrooms, berries and honey are sold, along with fresh meat and charcuterie, fish bread, cakes and jams and pickles, as well as acrylic sweaters, cemetery lights and flowers. Although there is a juice bar, a Jamaica Jerk Chicken and a host of smart cafes, Hales Turgus is, above all, an everyday market, which is not especially hip or new, but full of delicious, fresh stuff and masses of local color. There is also a street food market next door to the market hall every Sunday during the summer season.
